I had just created a nice long post about the challenges of sewing an oven mitt when my computer crashed. It does this alot and with it's proximity to a window, I'm thinking of opening said window and chucking the thing out. The computer seems to especially hate Typepad and Flickr and certain blogs that do alot of linking to Flickr. I'm not a "computer person", so I have no clue why this may be, except that perhaps the many viruses it's gotten over the last several months may have taken their toll.
So here's the simplified version. Behold the oven mitt I made:
It was alot more challenging than I expected, is probably too small to fit a man, and doesn't match anything else in my kitchen, but it keeps the heat away from my hand. If you dare to make your own, I suggest this site for good info before beginning.
Instead of putting a loop on it for hanging, I sewed a teeny-tiny neo-dymium magnet into that tab on the side. Now I can just throw it at the fridge (or anything magnetic) and it sticks like magic. I love those super strong magnets!
And I have to mention the granola, because it just came out of the oven and the entire apartment smells so yummy. Like cinnamon, vanilla, honey, and toasty goodness! I used the recipe found here, but subbed in a cup of ground flaxseed for 1 cup of the oats. Almonds were my nut of choice today.
I'm hoping Aaron will try it out for breakfast. He was skeptical when I told him I was making "cereal". It would be great with milk, or as a topping on fruit and yogurt. I just like to eat it dry as a snack. Natural, healthy, and so tasty.
